The awards and accolades keep coming for Northern FC.
The north of England champions’ presentation dinner took place last night in Rochdale. Representatives from the club travelled down to collect the Durham Northumberland One league title they successfully won last season. In attendance were club president Ron Borley, Chairman of Rugby Andy James, Fixtures secretary Walter Ritchie and first team captain Alex Clark. The weather conditions weren’t the best to travel down in, but that couldn’t wipe the smiles of the guys’ faces.

In March, club president Ron Borley travelled down to Twickenham to receive a personal award for his volunteer work. The club nominated Ron to the county for the award and he was lucky enough to be nominated for a lifetime achievement award. If there is anything that needs repairing or advice on club events, Ron is here with help from fellow Northern veteran John Bell. While down at Twickenham, Ron took in the England vs Scotland game, followed by the presentation dinner. The award was presented by England head coach Eddie Jones and president of the RFU Peter Baines. He thoroughly enjoyed every moment of his VIP weekend and everyone at the club thanks Ron for all his hard work.

Mel Vecsey was nominated for the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards for his work as a rugby volunteer and their dedication to the game.
The awards are part of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme which provides grassroots rugby clubs and the rugby community with opportunities to recognise and reward the volunteers who make up such an integral part of the game.
Having taken retirement 7 years ago Mel finds himself as the line-marker, grass cutter (with others), gardener, odd-jobber, weekly e-news provider and also mans the gate for 1st XV home games.
Mel was one of hundreds of specially selected volunteers who were invited to attend a drinks reception event held at the Morpeth Mitsubishi Motors dealership and was announced as a Volunteer of the Year finalist – earning him a place at the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards night at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 15 September 2017. Three overall winners will be announced on the evening and each one will receive a Mitsubishi car for a year as a thank you for their continued support of the game.
