Introduction

We, at Northern FC, are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for our young players. We believe that parents play a crucial role in their child's development in rugby and we encourage active participation from parents. This charter outlines the expectations and responsibilities of parents in line with the RFU guidance.

Responsibilities

  1. Communication: Maintain open communication with your child's Club Safeguarding Officer. Let them know who you are, who your child is, if your child has any care and support needs, allergens etc., and ensure that the Club Safeguarding Officer has suitable contact numbers for you, as well as emergency contact numbers for your child/children.

  1. Presence: Be as present at the club as you can. Your presence in your child’s rugby career will have a huge positive impact on them, as you will be better placed to offer encouragement and be a part of their journey.

  1. Understanding Safeguarding Procedures: Be proactive in understanding what your child’s club’s safeguarding procedures are, and what safeguarding responsibilities you have, as a parent.

  1. Positive Role Models: Act as positive role models to all young players.

  1. Respect Club Policy: Respect the rugby club policy with regard to spectator behaviour.

Expectations

  1. Teamwork: Encourage your child to work in a team and respect the rights of other players, coaches, officials and spectators.

  1. Respect: Instil the importance of respect for others and the spirit of the game.

  1. Enjoyment: Encourage your child to enjoy the game and improve their skills.

  1. Discipline: Ensure your child understands the rules and plays within them.

  1. Sportsmanship: Applaud good play from both teams and always be positive with your comments.

Conclusion

We believe that by adhering to this charter, we can together create a positive and nurturing environment for our young players to grow and enjoy the game of rugby. Remember, if you have seen, heard, or experienced anything that has made you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, please get in touch with our Safeguarding Officer or the RFU via their Speak Up Policy.
