Playing rugby can take you on an amazing journey, from making lots of new friends to travelling the country on tour. It can also teach some valuable life lessons such as respect and teamwork. Logan Scott, who plays in Northern's youth system, gives his story on playing rugby for this great club.

It all began when I was younger, on a warm summers day my Dad took me to training and I remember not knowing what to do. He probably said something like ‘just get stuck in’ so that’s exactly what I did. He has been my coach from day one and has taught me a lot of things; from learning how to pass a ball and stay behind the ball carrier (which was quite hard at a young age due to my lack of focus), to complicated techniques which will improve my standard of rugby. Furthermore, all of the other coaches have been extremely helpful, regularly pushing me to my limits and encouraging me on and off the pitch.
Throughout my rugby life, I have made so many new friends who I still know and play with to this current day. As a team we are all really close and love playing together, the atmosphere is always good, especially in the changing room after games we win. Everybody is laughing and Cameron is singing to songs Will blasts out on his speaker, but nothing beats the joy of sausage and chips after the game.
One year our team played extraordinary in the Lexus national cup qualifiers competition on a cold winters day at Carlisle. We won every game conceding no tries and we were though to the national competition. We headed down to Northampton a few months later after multiple intense training sessions. When we got there on Friday night, the squad met up at a Hilton not far from where we were playing on Sunday. We all just enjoyed ourselves and relaxed that night after going out for a full-squad meal. Saturday was pretty much the same except we cause a little bit of mischief at the pool for being too loud, what do you expect from a bunch of 10 year old. At the competition we played well and placed 5th in the country, not bad if you ask me
Overall, my highlights of each season is going on tour at the end of it, with my dad’s key phrase being ‘whatever goes on tour, stays on tour!’. That is of course until my mam came along one year. As we got older however, we started to have more free roam as the ‘responsible adults’ just gave us some money to do our own thing. The last few years we have been to centre parks, so we usually go to the indoor water slides and swimming pool, only breaking a few rules whilst we were there. What do you expect, we are on tour?

Since I started at northern, I have thoroughly enjoyed a positive rugby experience and will continue to play here for many years to come. I love everything about it!
