Past player news:
Former Northern player Phil Kite is leading a crew taking part in the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a 3,000mile rowing race, known as the world’s toughest row.
Phil took up rowing 4 years ago and now with Claire, Guy and Dave from the Tyne Rowing Club he is looking to compete in the race which starts in December 2018. The team expects it to take between 40 and 50 days to complete the challenge, rowing 2 hours on 2 hours off 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As part of their bid the crew, called Team Tyne Innovation, is incorporating innovative products and services developed by North East businesses and universities. They are then showcasing them with the boat around the region during 2018, the year of the Great Exhibition of the North and the tall ships race. The team is also raising money for 3 local charities being Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care, the Stroke Association and St Oswald’s Hospice. You can follow the teams progress on their website blog page at https://www.teamtyneinnovation.com/blog/ and donate to the good causes at https://www.teamtyneinnovation.com/support-our-bid/donations/
