1st XV lost 50 – 10 away to Percy Park. Match report thanks to Walter Ritchie:
Unlucky 13, yes, and so it proved on Saturday when Northern came up against a Percy Park who were flying full of confidence, running and passing and keeping the ball alive with searing line breaks, against a Northern side missing too many front-line players (9 in total) so the lads who played are to be congratulated on doing their very best.
Northern did enjoy a good start to the game putting pressure on the Park line and having territorial advantage for the first 20 minutes but Park’s resolute defence held out and they managed a converted opportunist try themselves, very much against the run of play. Park came into the game more and on 25 minutes kicked a penalty to increase the lead. Northern then lost centre James Campion with a hamstring injury and this forced a reshuffle in the backs which the home side exploited to score a further three trys (two converted) before half-time to lead 29 – 0.
Northern started the second half in the same way they did in the first half and again pressed Park back and enjoyed further territorial advantage. During this period Northern scored a good forward try through White out wide that hooker Ryan Moore was just unable to convert. This stung Park into action and they scored three further converted trys by taking advantage of disorganisation in the Northern back line. Northern did manage the last score with a fine individual effort by Harrison Clark who chipped the ball through and collected his own kick ahead of the cover defence to score out wide. Ryan Moore was unlucky with the conversion when it rebounded off the post. Full time score Percy Park 50, Northern 10.
Next week we are at home to Morpeth who have started with a win and a draw so we will hopefully be back to near full strength so please come along for an excellent lunch and support the team.
